Thatcher's Rest Cottage, located in Bettystown, Co Meath, has been named the Best Holiday Home Beach House in Europe at the 2016 European Holiday Home Awards.
The Cottages, run by Liz Pickett and her husband Roger, comprise of a range of six 300-year-old thatched cottages located on the Meath beach front, and saw its Thatcher's Rest Cottage beat finalists from Spain, Norway and Denmark, as well as Mayo's Achill Cottages.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, Pickett said: "We're over the moon. We had zero expectation of winning. We felt like we'd won being shortlisted, to be honest. We were up against gorgeous places ranging from Cornwall to an island in Croatia, with all the bells and whistles. It is a major wow to have won."
The six cottages have been renovated to 5-star standards and have a "lovely, old-world feel but with cutting edge Wi-Fi, flatscreen TVs, luxury beds and linen... all the stuff you'd want to find", added Pickett.
A 3-night booking at Thatcher's Rest Cottage, the minimum rental policy, has a rate of €1,260 and can sleep six people across three bedrooms.
