Donald Trump’s Son Opens Revamped Doonbeg Golf Course

Eric Trump, son of US Presidential hopeful Donald, was in west Clare over the weekend to reopen the links golf course after a two-year redesign costing €5 million.

Redesigned by Martin Hawtree, the course is expected to compete with the numerous top-end link courses dotted along the west coast of the country.

Last week, the Trumps lodged plans with Clare County Council for a €10 million coastal protection works to protect the course from the Atlantic, reports The Irish Times.

At the reopening ceremony, Eric Trump stated that his father hopes to return to Doonbeg 'many times' as US President.

"Right now, my father is winning the day in America. If the vote was today, he would be president of the Unites States," he said.

He went on to add that the Trumps have invested up to $60 million in Doonbeg (including the purchase price) since early 2014 and are likely to spend more on the property in the coming years.
