Donegal Aims To Become One Of World's Top Tourist Destinations

After gaining global exposure with filming of the next Star Wars film at Malin Head, as well as featuring in National Geographic Travel's 'Cool List' for 2017, Donegal's head of tourism wants to "put Donegal firmly on the map as one of the top tourist destinations in the world". reports Donegalnow.com.

It's been a busy year for Co. Donegal with it recently receiving planning permission for its first distillery in 175 years; Harvey's Point being named Ireland's number one hotel by TripAdvisor; and its airport voted one of the world's top 10 scenic airports for 2016. Bundoran hopes to attract some of those potential future tourists with the release of a 48-page brochure which will "include a historical trail and also a sculpture trail for visitors to follow" after collaborating with the Magh Ene Historical Society.

Donegal County Council's head of tourism Barney McLaughlin said: "Through collaborative marketing, we can put Donegal firmly on the map as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. Donegal Tourism Ltd in association with Donegal County Council will work collaboratively with tourism providers to showcase Donegal on the Wild Atlantic Way. Various tourism providers have come on board to represent and promote their respective areas including Discover Bundoran, Donegal Town, and Killybegs – Gateway to Sliabh Liag, Donegal Airport, Fanad Lighthouse and Inishowen Tourism."
