Easter Bonanza Expected For Dublin Hospitality

With Easter this year coinciding with 1916 commemorations over the long weekend, Dublin's hospitality businesses look set for a bumper few days as thousands of visitors pour into the capital.

Hotel search engine trivago.ie reports that Dublin is the most popular destination in Europe for travellers this Easter, followed by London, Amsterdam and Galway. Four of the top ten destinations are located in Ireland, with New York being the only long haul destination.

Trivago reports that 52 per cent of Irish users have opted for a four-star hotel and will stay for an average duration of five nights.

New York is the most expensive destination for a hotel stay this Easter, at an average of €300 per night. This is followed by Amsterdam, at €212, and London, at €207. The cheapest is Galway, at €115 per night. In all cases, prices during the Easter weekend have increased when compared to the monthly average during March.

Denise Bartlett, from trivago.ie, commented: "Those checking into a hotel this Easter weekend are likely to be travelling abroad, with just four of the top ten destinations located in Ireland. As is usual during a long weekend, the city break is a popular option, with capital cities taking the limelight this Easter. New York, which is consistently popular among our Irish users, is the only long haul destination to feature in the top ten. Irish holidaymakers seem willing to spend a little more on their hotel this Easter, with the largest proportion opting for a four star hotel."
