Green Light for New Harcourt Street Hotel in Dubin

The owners of the Harcourt Hotel in Dublin 2 have been granted permission to build a new four-star, 152-bedroom hotel on Dublin's Harcourt Street.

The Irish Independent reports that Brian and Sally McGill's Olema Consultants have been given the go-ahead by Dublin City Council to build the new hotel on the site of Pinebrook House Offices, down the road from the Harcourt.

In its planning application, Olema addressed the current shortage of bedrooms in the city, saying that the Gibson, the Marker and the Dean are the only large hotels that have been added in the last decade and there is a need for a new large-scale investment.

The statistics support the firm's claim, as the latest statistics from Fáilte Ireland show that there are 3,000 fewer beds now (41,816) than there were in Dublin in 2010 (44,929).

The overhaul will see two new floors being added to the building, which currently is four storeys. It said it will "promote and enhance Dublin as a world class tourist destination for leisure, culture, business and student visitors".
