Hotel and Restaurant Sectors Driving Irish Job Growth

The hotel and restaurant sectors have spearheaded a sizeable jobs boost to the Irish economy in the past year, according to latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The CSO's new Quarterly National Household Survey showed overall employment nationally was up 57,500 in the three months to the end of September from a year earlier, with numbers at work again topping the two million mark, reports the Irish Examiner.

The CSO reported that 12 of the 14 areas of the economy showed growth in employment in the year, with two sectors — accommodation and restaurants and construction — posting the biggest spikes, accounting for 22,700 job between them, or almost 40%, of all the new jobs created.
