Ireland's Ancient East Receives €445k Funding For Two Co. Meath Projects

Ireland's Ancient East is to receive €445k of funding from Fáilte Ireland's 2016 Capital Grants Allocation for two Co. Meath projects.

A grant of €350k has been awarded to enable the development of a strategy for a range of heritage attractions in the Boyne Valley, with the remaining €95k being allocated to the Office of Public Works for the continued development of the stone age site at Knowth.

Patrick O'Donovan, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport said: "I am delighted to announce these grants today as a serious boost to the development of Ireland’s Ancient East in the north east. The new brand is starting to gain traction but it is very important that its exciting possibilities are matched by visitor experiences on the ground – hence, investment such as this is vitally important."

The €350k grant will also be used to expand plans for a new visitor experience at the Brú na Bóinne visitor centre as well as for the proposed visitor facilities at Knowth.

Fáilte Ireland’s Jenny de Saulles added: "Ireland’s Ancient East has great potential and is already being warmly received. However, it is vital that we continue to invest in the project to ensure that we open up its full potential."
