Jameson Distillery To Close For €11m Redevelopment

Smithfield's Old Jameson Distillery is to undergo an €11 million redevelopment which will see it close for refurbishment from the first of September until next March.

The distillery, which opened in 1995, was recently ranked number 16 in Fáilte Ireland's 2015 top fee paying attractions, welcoming 282,056 visitors. Ireland's whiskey industry has seen massive growth in recent years and the owner of Jameson, Irish Distillers, hope that the distilleries planned refurbishment will help attract more new visitors reports RTE.ie.

Currently The Old Jameson Distillery employs 75 people and during the redevelopment those staff will be used to set up a 'Welcome Kiosk' on Bow St, which will act as a starting point for people visiting the distillery, as well as hosting tasting experiences and food pairings around Smithfield.

The chairman and CEO of Irish Distillers, Jean-Christophe Coutures, said the €11 million investment “marks an important moment in the history of Jameson in Ireland.”
