McDonald's To Construct Two-Storey Restaurant In Tralee

McDonald's is to continue its Irish expansion with plans to construct a two-storey restaurant in Co Kerry.

The fast-food chain is to double in size its Tralee restaurant and drive-thru, however the application requires a material contravention of the existing town plan, reports the Irish Examiner.

The issue has gained support from the likes of councillor Pa Daly, who has suggested McDonald's should make a voluntary financial contribution towards keeping the town tidy, with the nine-member Tralee Municipal District body to ultimately decide on the application. The planned work involves the demolition of the current drive-thru restaurant and expanding into an adjacent easterly site, as well as creating a larger car park and paved area.

"Substantial efforts are being made by McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland to change their image and attract new types of customers, and improve the appearance and visual impact of their premises across the country," a spokesperson for the company's planning agent said.

McDonald's Ireland plan for attracting those new customers is for its restaurants to have a modern, contemporary appearance, adopting a 'natural theme' and using a new colour code of white, green and yellow alongside wood and stone.
