Planning Refused For 146-Bedroom Cork Hotel; Restaurant Building On Market

Cork City Council has refused planning permission for the construction of a 146-bedroom hotel and business centre at South Terrace, Cork.

Plans, lodged by Carra Shore Ltd, who are affiliated with Seraphine Hotel Group a chain that operates 'chic' boutique hotels in central London, had proposed the change-of-use from office to hotel and business centre use.

The development proposed the partial demolition, conservation and extension of protected structures on-site for the construction of 146 bedrooms with a reception, bar, breakfast/lounge seating area, kitchen, meeting and conference rooms. The building's distinctive, red-brick facade would have been retained, with much of the proposed development being done in the rear of the building reports, The Evening Echo.

Elsewhere in Cork, Savills estate agents has brought to market a three-storey commercial building, which is home to the Strasbourg Goose, as well as offices on the first and second floor, on 17/18 French Church Street with a guide price of €600,000.

The building's ground floor has been let to Strasbourg Goose for nearly 20 years with a passing rent of €31,764 per annum. The three tenants pay a combined rent of €43,644 per annum, reports The Irish Examiner.

Strasbourg Goose comprises 35 covers and kitchen, with an additional kitchen/prep room and cold store at mezzanine level as well as a staff office. The first and second floor offices are of similar layout with an open-plan area.
