Richard Branson Eyes Dublin For New Five-Star Hotel

It is reported that billionaire Virgin boss Richard Branson is looking to tap into the ongoing demand for hotel rooms in Dublin by establishing a new property in the capital.

Branson is understood to have looked at the possibility of purchasing the Central Bank's landmark headquarters on Dame Street.

In September, estate agents Lisney launched the €65 million sale of the Sam Stephenson-designed Central Bank building, with bids in the region of €2m and €14m expected for nearby Lots 2 and 3 respectively. It's has since been sold to US investment giants Hines for €65million.

Branson's architects reviewed the property, with plans to turn it into a luxury 260 bedroom hotel, reports dublinlive.ie, citing a report in the Sunday Business Post.

Missing out on the Central Bank HQ has not deterred Branson who still remains keen on bringing his Virgin Hotel chain here.

"Dublin is a city we're actively pursuing as part of our European growth strategy," said Alex Andjel, vice-president of development for the company, adding that, "At this stage, we have not confirmed a location. Further details will be release in due course."
