Smartphone App To Reduce Food Waste In Restaurants

A new smartphone app called 'Too Good To Go' aims to help reduce food waste at restaurants, cafes and bakeries by allowing users to order food at a greatly reduced cost which would otherwise be thrown out.

The app was founded in Denmark last year and had its official UK launch in January.

Discussing the issues the app faces, co-founder Chris Wilson told the London Evening Standard: “Most of the places [on the app] tend to be independent or just small chains because it is really hard to crack the big companies. It is the bigger chains that have the larger amounts of food waste but it is hard to even speak to the right people there.”

Too Good To Go currently has a presence in six countries but a spokesperson for the company said “there are no immediate plans to branch out to Ireland/Dublin.”
