A new 300-bedroom hotel close to St Stephen's Green in Dublin has moved a step closer following Dublin city council handing the project the green light.

In July, British hotel and serviced apartment group Marlin, which is owned by Irish businessman John Corless, approached city planners in the capital with the view of adding an additional 120 bedrooms to the original plans for the development at Bow Lane East.

Now, according to a thetimes.co.uk, the council planners are happy for the project to proceed, stating that the hotel 'would not adversely affect the character of the area'.

Meanwhile, the same website is reporting that Denis O'Brien has agreed a deal to bring the first Starwood Aloft hotel to Dublin.

Starwood Aloft is the group's hip boutique franchise and is expected to operate the new 202-bedroom hotel currently being built at Blackpitts in Dublin 8, which is earmarked to be delivered by building company BAM in 2018.

The new hotel is expected to be the focal point of the a rejuvenation of the Liberties area in the capital, alongside two student accommodation blocks.
