Sweeney's And Berlin Close Up Shop In Dublin

Two popular hospitality businesses in Dublin have announced that they will be closing their doors.

Sweeney's (pictured), the live music venue and bar on Dame Street, which was reported to have received bids in excess of €4 million in late March after being put up for sale, is closing at the end of June after seven years in business. 

"The current owners are selling the building. If whoever buys it wants to keep it as a bar we will reopen but it's all very uncertain right now," Sweeney's management told

Berlin, a cafe and lunch venue during the day that transforms into a bar and dance club in the evening, is to close on 22 May. The manager, Stephen McCusker, told the that, "It's unlikely there'll be a new premises in the immediate future, but that Berlin will be back in some respect".

Meanwhile, Lower Baggot Street will be welcoming a new modern Italian cafe and restaurant to the neighbourhood called Cirillo's. It will be serving pasta, pizzas cooked in a pizza oven imported from Naples, as well as coffee's and pastries, according to

Tang, a new cafe on Dawson Street, opened its doors to the public earlier this month. It will be run by the owners of Yogism, a frozen yogurt shop in George's Street Arcade.

However, Tang will be concentrating on serving Middle Eastern style food.
