Third Terminal Mooted For Dublin Airport As Congestion Increases

The Government will examine the possibility of the third terminal at Dublin Airport as part of independent review in relation to increasing air traffic congestion at the capital's airport.

Dublin Airport is expected to see 27 million passengers pass through its doors in 2016 - up from a record 25 million last year - and now Cabinet has agreed to put out to tender a contract for independent consultants to review the continuing spike in air traffic congestion as a result, reports rte.ie.

Government has said the review will include the possibility of a third terminal, while Minister for Transport Shane Ross's proposal to appoint the Irish Aviation Authority as the competent authority to regulate noise levels at the airport has also been given the green light.

The Dublin Airport Authority has had planning permission since 2007 for a third runway.
