Adare Manor Shuts For Major Refurbishment

Adare Manor in County Limerick will close today (21 January) to undergo a major facelift, with JP McManus' 842-acre resort not expected to reopen until September 2017.

Adare Manor yesterday received planning permission to add an extra 40 bedrooms to the hotel, to bring its total to 104, subject to 22 conditions, reports The Irish Times.

There is also a ballroom being built that will cater for 350 guests, while other additions include a new pool and relaxation area, a spa, a cinema and a boardroom for up to 30 people.

Anita Higgins, General manager of Adare Manor & Golf Resort, while declining to comment on the cost of the refurbishment, described it as a “new beginning” for the resort, adding that the estate is being developed so that when people stay they won't have to go back outside the door.

The Irish Times also reports that "62 of the 170 staff will remain on to manage the project and to secure future bookings, while 300 will be employed there when it reopens".

The golf course and clubhouse will also get a refurbishment and will close for 12 months.
