Shannon Airport Employee Unions Reject Redundancy And Pay Cut Plans

Unions for Shannon Airport employees have rejected the airport's plans for voluntary redundancies and 20% pay cuts until 2023.

The unions, which include Siptu, Connect and Forsa, are seeking talks with Shannon Group CEO Mary Considine, who said that the airport wants voluntary redundancies and a pay cut for employees who earn more than €30,000.

"Appalling"

The Irish Times quotes Siptu sector organiser Neil McGowan as saying, "The lack of consultation with staff and their representatives is appalling, and will not assist in reaching an agreeable solution to the difficulties of the airport company.

"The unions will be seeking the same terms regarding voluntary redundancy that are on offer to airport workers in DAA."

DAA, which operates Dublin and Cork airports, is offering up to two years' pay to employees who volunteer for redundancy.

McGowan added, "We will be consulting our members in the coming days to discuss the best means of defending the interests of Shannon Airport workers."
