Carra Shore Seeks Permission To Develop Hotel On Cork's Camden Quay

Carra Shore Hotel (Camden Place) Limited has lodged an application for planning permission to develop a hotel on a site on Cork city's Camden Quay.

The news follows news from November of 2020 that the 0.5 acre site, which is the former McKenzie's Circuit Courthouse site and is located directly opposite Cork Opera House on Camden Place and Pine Street, was purchased for €3.5 million by a purchaser who sources identified as John Kajani, who is the founder of property firm JMK Group, owns hotels in Dublin, Waterford and London, and is associated with Carra Shore and the Seraphine Group.

Proposed Hotel Details

As reported by The Irish Examiner, the proposed hotel would include 194 bedrooms, 41 of which would be long-stay suites, as well as a ground floor restaurant/café, a rooftop restaurant and a gym.

The process of developing the proposed hotel would involve the construction of a rear annex, the height of which would range from two to six storeys.

Planning Grant For Offices

The site has a planning grant for approximately 70,000 square foot of offices, but it reportedly appears to be more likely that it will be redeveloped as a hotel.
