Angling Festival To Boost Tourism In Longford & Roscommon

Upwards of 130 Irish and international anglers are set to descend upon Counties Longford and Roscommon this weekend for the Lough Ree International Angling Festival.

The event kicks off at 8.45am tomorrow morning (Saturday June 24) and will be hosted by the Lough Ree Angling Hub in conjunction with the Camlin & District Angling club between the towns of Lanesboro and Ballyleague. It is expected that the festival will generate approximately €50,000 for the local economy, with attendees booking out local B & B's and pumping a lot of extra money into pubs and restaurants in the area, according to The Longford Leader.

Lough Ree Angling Hub representative Philip Gordon commented that "this weekend, the lake will be alive again with boats and top class angling. The international flags are already up on the river Shannon bridge and everyone is looking forward to the event."

The festival is supported by Inland Fisheries Ireland, Waterways Ireland and Fáilte Ireland as well as Born na Móna, ESB, Longford and Roscommon county councils and Vincent McGowan Engineering and will run until Sunday June 25.
