Brown Thomas Apply for Full Pub License

Iconic Dublin department store Brown Thomas on Grafton Street could soon open a pub on the premises.

The chain has recently asked the Circuit Licensing Court for a declaratory order which, on successful completion, will guarantee the refurbished restaurant's obtaining of a full pub license.

A wine license had been operated by the store for the last 40 years. The Irish Times is reporting that the new pub aims to improve the shopping experience for partners and spouses who have to wait while shopping is completed. A full drinks menu, including beer and spirits, is to be offered at the pub.

The Irish Times reports that Constance Cassidy SC, counsel for Brown Thomas, said Brown Thomas had bought out extinguished a full pub license from Falcon Irish Pubs Limited.

Frank Kenny, of Kenny Kane architects, designers, planning consultants and licensing specialists, said to Ms Cassidy that planning permission had been obtained for a carvery area and a new kitchen. Dry goods and refrigerated storage areas, dining areas and staff facilities had also been given the green light.
