The Central Hotel In Dublin Applies For Extensive Refurbishment

Developer Jerry Conlon, owner of The Central Hotel on Dublin's Exchequer Street, has applied for planning permission for an extensive refurbishment to the hotel and adjacent properties, increasing its number of bedrooms from 70 to 116 .

Emco Hotels planning application to Dublin City Council is seeking extensive refurbishment of The Central Hotel, resulting in an overall amalgamated hotel comprising of seven-storey's over 6,374 square metres, reports The Irish Independent.

The Central Hotel refurbishment involves the removal of internal walls to facilitate the reconfiguration of its basement areas and associated change of use of 11, 14 and 16 George's Street Great South from retail and nightclub use to hotel use, which will see the addition of a new connected breakfast and restaurant area with a hotel gym at basement level.

Emco Hotels are seeking the addition of a new bar and lounge area which will be connected to the existing 'library bar' at first-floor level, as well as an internal terraced platform area. The second, third and fourth floor levels will comprise of further bedrooms. External work will include new canopies, the replacement of shopfronts on Exchequer Street and facades on George's Street Great South.

The application is also seeking the demolition of 12 Dame Court, which is currently occupied by Honest To Goodness restaurant, to be replaced with a seven-storey building as an extension to the existing hotel with bar use at ground-floor level and hotel use at first-floor level.
