A group of seven international journalists and bloggers with a combined audience reach of 3.5 million people arrived in Cork yesterday (4 September) to showcase all of the attractions accessible from the county's airport.
Made up of individuals from Italy, India, Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany, the group's visit is being hosted by Fáilte Ireland in conjunction with sister agency Tourism Ireland. It is hoped that by showcasing an assortment of sites across Cork and Kerry, new air routes can be leveraged in and out of Cork Airport.
The attractions on the journalists' agenda include the Staigue stone fort, the village of Waterville, Valentia Island and Skellig Michael. They will also be partaking in a walking tour of Cork city which will afford them the opportunity to visit the English Market, the Franciscan Well Brewery, the Titanic Experience, Cobh Heritage Centre and the local Jameson Whiskey Distillery. Additionally, a trip to the Clock Tower in Youghal and a guided tour of St Mary’s Collegiate Church are planned during their stay as well.
Commenting on the group's visit, head of international publicity for Fáilte Ireland Ciara Sugrue said, “It is our hope that this press trip will highlight the fantastic choices on offer for those arriving on new routes into Cork Airport, whether it’s the stunning natural beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way or the rich heritage of Ireland's Ancient East.”
