Cork's Metropole Hotel To Get €50m Facelift, Add Sister Hotel

Cork's Metropole hotel is reportedly set to undergo a €50 million refurbishment that will double its room count, add shops to its ground floor and see the construction of a three-star sister hotel to be titled The M.

According to The Irish Examiner, the two hotels will be collectively known as The Met and will have 400 bedrooms between them. The plans are still subject to planning approval.

While all of its original Victorian/Edwardian Arthur Hill design sections will be retained and enhanced, Metropole owners Trigon Hotels are filing for permission to demolish and replace the venue's twentieth century wings running from MacCurtain Street to St. Patrick's Quay.

Having acquired the Metropole for €5 million in 2015, Trigon Hotels proceeded to purchase the PJ O'Hea garage site on the adjacent Harley Street for €1.35 million with the attention of locating the proposed M hotel there.

The Metropole and The M will be linked by two bridges above Harley Street, with features planned to include an internal water garden and rooftop function room.
