Donegal Named No.1 in National Geographic's 'Cool List' For 2017

County Donegal has been named number one in National Geographic Traveller's Cool List: 17 for 2017, beating the likes of Peru, Canada and Sicily.

The list, which "reveals the culture capitals, hipster hotspots, wild escapes and places generally keeping it cool in 2017", describes Donegal as "a land that feels undiscovered".

Filming of the latest Star Wars movie in Malin Head and the county's "weather-nibbled coast spotted with sea stacks, Blue Flag beaches and offshore-islands" were contributing factors in helping it being named the 'coolest' place to visit next year.

Donegal's "dreamlike landscape" with roads that "wind like ribbons" has "an array of reasons to visit, from surfing beaches in Magheroarty and Ballyhiernan Bay to Horn Head" said the magazine.

It also recommended the likes of Lough Eske Castle, Harvey’s Point, Rathmullen House, Kinnegar brewery and Harrys Restaurant, reports Donegaldaily.com.
