Heineken has been named the biggest-selling alcohol brand and Ireland's number-one lager for the second year in succession, according to the latest edition of the Checkout Top 100 Brands.
Produced by Checkout magazine in association with Nielsen, the report is based on branded value sales across the Irish grocery sector, measuring the sales performance of over 6,500 brands from over 200 product classes.
The report includes a in-depth look at the top alcohol brands in the country, listing the top selling brands (off-trade) in the various alcohol product classes.
In the overall Top 50 Alcohol Brands, Heineken remains king, followed by Budweiser and Smirnoff. Bulmers (5th) finished ahead of Guinness (6th), with Jameson placed one spot below.
Santa Rita, which was placed in ninth position overall in the alcohol category, was crowned number one in the Top 20 Wines class, followed by Blossom Hill, McGuigan, Wolf Blass and Casillero del Diablo.
Smirnoff retained its position as Irelands biggest-selling vodka brand for the sixth successive year as it was named the company's top selling spirit. Jameson continues to lead the way in the resurgence of the Irish Whiskey category, finishing in second spot overall behind Smirnoff in the overall spirits market. Hennessy (4th), Powers (5th) and Bushmills (6th) also faired well in the ranking.
