Pernod Ricard Agrees US Importation And Distribution Deal For Portfolio Of Brands Including Powers Irish Whiskey With Lafayette Imports
Irish Distillers owner Pernod Ricard has agreed a US importation and distribution deal for a portfolio of brands including Powers Irish Whiskey with Lafayette Imports.
Lafayette Imports, which is a new company founded by Biggar & Leith partners Elwyn Gladstone and Mark Teasdale, will take on Powers Irish Whiskey, Plymouth Gin and a range of craft Irish whiskey brands including Knappogue Castle Single Malts and Clontarf.
These brands will be combined with Biggar & Leith's spirits portfolio of Spytail Rum, Hotel Starlino Vermouth, Stambecco Amaro, The Gladstone Axe Malt Scotch, Shanky’s Whip and The Butterfly Cannon Tequila to create a portfolio of noteworthy imports in fast-growing and dynamic categories.

In a statement published on Pernod Ricard’s website, Pernod Ricard chairman and CEO Alexandre Ricard said, "Plymouth, Powers, Knappogue Castle and Clontarf have strong potential in growing categories. As we strive to constantly strengthen our brand-building, this dedicated and fit for purpose approach allows these brands to have renewed development and to meet new consumers. The Gin Hub and Irish Distillers global brand companies will work closely with Lafayette Imports to support this innovative approach."

Meanwhile, Teasdale commented, "The spirits market is driven by innovation and premium high-quality brands with provenance and heritage. We are excited to be bringing our expertise, track-record and know-how to an entirely new company which will house a noteworthy portfolio of brands in exciting categories with huge growth potential."
Taking Over From Pernod Ricard USA
As reported by The Irish Independent, Lafayette will be taking over from Pernod Ricard USA.
Irish Distillers International Marketing Director Statements
The Irish Independent quotes Irish Distillers international marketing director Brendan Buckley as saying, "We will be working hand in glove with [Lafayette Imports]. We now have people on the Lafayette team who want to engage and talk with us and invest behind the brand in the way we would have always liked to have done."
According to The Irish Independent, Buckley also said that Powers Irish Whiskey will be a "standout brand" in Lafayette's US portfolio, and added, "This is a step change for Powers.
"I believe this will be the start of a recovery for the brand. It has been flat for a number of years now."
