Planning Permission Being Sought For New Visitor Centre At Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery In Co. Offaly

Planning permission is being sought for a new visitor centre at the Tullamore D.E.W. distillery in Co. Offaly.

As reported by The Irish Independent, Tullamore D.E.W. producer William Grant & Sons is seeking permission from Offaly County Council to change the use of its three storey "Three Sister Administration Building" at its Tullamore D.E.W. distillery to a visitor centre with a shop.

Tullamore D.E.W. Spokesperson Statement

The Irish Independent quotes a spokesperson for Tullamore D.E.W. as saying, "Last year, we announced plans to relocate our visitor experience to the Tullamore distillery. We believe our new state-of-the-art facilities will provide a new rich and immersive experience for our visitors.

"We are pleased to share that we have now started the planning permission process, and we will provide further detail in due course. We remain committed to the town of Tullamore, and we look forward to continuing to do our part to boost and sustain the local economy in the years ahead."

"Summer 2021"

A post on Tullamore D.E.W.'s website states that it is planned to open a new visitor experience at the Co. Offaly distillery from "summer 2021".

Bury Quay Visitor Centre Closure

William Grant & Sons closed the former visitor centre on Bury Quay in Tullamore last year. The closure reportedly put approximately 14 jobs at risk. Tullamore D.E.W. partially blamed the COVID-19 pandemic's adverse impact on visitor numbers for the visitor centre's closure. The visitor centre previously hosted up to 40,000 visitors annually after it opened in 2012.

2019 Pre-Tax Loss

The news of William Grant & Sons seeking planning permission for a new visitor centre at the Tullamore D.E.W. distillery in Co. Offaly follows news from earlier this month that William Grant & Sons recorded a pre-tax loss of €3.73 million for 2019.
