Drogheda's D Hotel Bought By Gleann Hospitality

Drogheda's d hotel has been bought from Edward Holdings for an undisclosed sum by Gleann Hospitality Ltd.

The transaction was finalised on 13 January 2017, with plans to renovate and revamp key areas in the property, including its bar and restaurant before the summer.

The four-star hotel, which was built in 2007, sits on the banks of the River Boyne and employs over 70 staff. It has 104 bedrooms and has seen a strong uptake in the corporate and wedding market over the past year. The transfer and future business of the property will be overseen by owner Alan Murtagh, previously of Louis FitzGerald Group, whilst the day-to-day running of the business will be managed by general manager, Ciaran O’Donovan. The terms of the sale were agreed quickly, requiring no agent involvement.

Commenting on future plans for the d hotel, Murtagh said: “The d hotel is already trading at a high level and generating strong international and domestic business. That said, we want to offer our guests a higher standard in food and beverage. As a result, we plan to undertake a complete rebrand and renovation of the current restaurant and bar, making full use of the beautiful riverside terrace by the time the warm weather hits.”

O’Donovan added: “I think I speak for the entire staff when I say how pleased we are with the new direction that the hotel is taking. This is the best possible outcome for the d hotel locally and we look forward to showcasing the new developments as they happen always with minimum disruption to our guests.”
