Dublin Airport Rises In Europe's 'Most Connective Airports' Ranking

The ACI Europe Airport Industry Connectivity Report 2017 has named Dublin Airport as the 18th and 20th most connective airport in Europe in the categories of hub and direct connectivity, respectively.

According to rte.ie, the report's rankings are assigned based on how many direct routes an airport runs as well as the frequency of such services and the quality of connections available. After analysing the data for Dublin Airport, the ACI found that its hub connectivity has increased by a substantial 286% over the past decade.

Dublin Airport's managing director, Vincent Harrison, commented that: "Air connectivity is essential for the Irish economy, which is one of the most open economies in the world. Dublin Airport now has much greater direct and hub connectivity than it had before the global downturn, and we're continuing to expand. Over the past three years Dublin Airport has seen 53 new routes and capacity increases on 84 existing services."

Dublin was one of three new airports to enter the top 20, alongside Moscow-Sheremetyevo and Palma de Malloraca, while Amsterdam Schipol was named the European leader for direct connectivity and Frankfurt was found to be the best connective hub in both Europe and the world at large.
