Dublin City Council To Begin Work On Grafton St

Dublin City Council will begin repaving work on Grafton St at the end of this month, 27 May. The €2.5 million works will see the removal of the  red brick surface and its replacement with a grey and pink granite surface. The council will begin the works near the top of the street. The resurfacing works are expected to last at least 18 months, ending in November 2014. However, the works will be paused to accommodate the busy Christmas and New Year's shopping period. The first section to be resurfaced will be a stretch from Chatham St to South King St, which be closed to traffic until August 2013. The Council have stated that pedestrian and emergency access to all buildings will be maintained during the works period. As the works will result in 20% less space for vehicles, the Council have urged businesses to encourage suppliers to park elsewhere or to as little time as possible on the street.
