Dublin Discovery Trails Launches New Northside Routes

Two new "Dublin Discovery Trails" have been launched today (August 1) by Dublin Lord Mayor Mícheál MacDonnacha at the capital's Hugh Lane Gallery. Entitled "Iconic Sights, Hidden Highlights" and "Inspiring Places, Hallowed Spaces", respectively, the trails were developed by Fáilte Ireland in conjunction with Dublin City Council and Dublin’s Northside Attractions to allow visitors to the city to explore the hidden histories and inspiring sites of Dublin's northside.

Attractions featured on the trails include the likes of Glasnevin Cemetery, the James Joyce Centre, the GPO Witness History, the EPIC Ireland emigration museum, Croke Park and the aforementioned Hugh Lane Gallery.

The new trails are the latest addition to the existing Dublin Discovery Trails, which are a series of free self-guided walking trails connected by The Dubline - an orientation route through the heart of the city that introduces visitors to the tales of the city’s colourful past as they explore the capital.

Speaking at the launch, MacDonncha asserted, "It is fitting that the launch is taking place here in Dublin city gallery, The Hugh Lane, one of the iconic venues on the trail.”

Fáilte Ireland chief executive Paul Kelly added, “These new trails on the northside of the city are all part of our evolving programme to enrich the visitor experience by leveraging Dublin’s great stories, and making it easy for visitors to delve deeper into real Dublin.”
