Dunkin Donuts to Offer Croissant Donut

Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc.’s doughnut unit will introduce a croissant version of its namesake product 3 November after bakeries offering similar pastries drew customers.

The ring-shaped croissant crossover will sell at selected shops for $2.49, Justin Drake, a Dunkin’ Donuts spokesman, said in an e-mail.

The glazed, flaky ring will be made in limited quantities and served nationwide for a limited time, Drake said. New York’s Dominique Ansel Bakery drew lines with hundreds of people starting to form at 6:30 am and rationed purchases after introducing a “cronut” hybrid and “cookie shot” vanilla-infused milk.

Canton, Massachusetts-based Dunkin’ has been focused on expanding the chain outside the US to keep pace with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. and Starbucks Corp.

The company, which has about 7,800 Dunkin’ Donuts stores across the US, rose 0.9 per cent to $45.50 at the close of trading in New York yesterday. The shares have dropped 5.6 per cent this year, compared with a 6.1 per cent gain for the S&P 500 Index.
