Fáilte Ireland Launches Mentoring Programme For Aspiring Irish Chefs

Up to 30 chefs from across Dublin have learned how they can support aspiring chefs as they took part in a two-day "Commis Chef Mentoring Programme" run by Fáilte Ireland at the Cooks Academy and in Brooks Hotel, Dublin on September 19 and 20.

The programme is part of Fáilte Ireland’s plan to address the skills shortage that currently exists within the Irish culinary industry. It has been developed by SOLAS with the support of Fáilte Ireland, the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) and the Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI), and will prepare current practitioners to provide aspiring chefs with a rich experience within the workplace.

Speaking about the programme, director of business development for Fáilte Ireland, Paul Keeley, explained, “A very significant part of the new Commis Chef Apprenticeship Programme will be work based learning, so it is crucial that the training and support available within the workplace will be of a high standard. Fáilte Ireland is determined to ensure the success of the new apprenticeship scheme and we are very much focused on working with the industry at ground level to create the best educational environment to deliver great Irish chefs for years to come.”

The two-day event was the first of a number of Commis Chef Mentoring Programmes Fáilte Ireland will be holding across the country over the next number of weeks. Subsequent workshops include events planned for midlands, west and south of Ireland, and will also involve guidance from leaders in the industry.
