Ireland's First Craft Beer-Only Pub To Open

The first pub in Ireland to sell only craft beers will open in Dublin next week, owned by the Galway Bay Brewery.

The Beer Market, situated in High Street near Christchurch in Dublin 8, will be dedicated to selling only craft ales, lagers and ciders. So-called 'macro beers', i.e. Guinness, Heineken and Bulmers will not be available.

In an even more unconventional move, the pub will sell draught beers not by name, but by number. Each beer will simply have a number on the tap instead of a name and logo. This is to increase the amount of guest beers and seasonal offerings, keeping the selection variable.

The Beer Market is the 10th pub Galway Bay Brewery has opened, its seventh in Dublin with another three operating in Galway. These bars, such as Against the Grain (pictured) and Brew Dock in Dublin, sell craft beers alongside other beers. This is the first to sell craft beer exclusively.

Speaking to the Irish Times, operations manager Andy Byrne said the pub, which also won't have any televisions or live music, is "a step up" from their usual M.O.

"If you are into your craft beers, you want to search out the best beers. It will be a rarity to come into a place like this and not find a beer you haven’t found before,” said Byrne.
