The five-star Shelbourne Hotel is one of three hotels in Dublin offering rooms at significantly discounted rates for use during daytime hours only.
The Shelbourne (pictured), along with the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport and Aberdeen Lodge, is targeting the lucrative business market by listing on Dayuse, a website and mobile app offering people the opportunity to book a 'daycation'.
The Irish Independent reports that the service, which allows customers to book rooms for time slots ranging from two to eight hours, launched in Paris in 2010 and is now available in 14 countries worldwide, and now boasts 2,000 hotel partners.
Dayuse says rooms are 35-75% cheaper than average night rates, "with prices remaining the same whether booked minutes before or up to six months in advance", adding that almost half the site's users are business or transit travellers, needing a space to work or sleep.
The Shelbourne is currently offering a deluxe room for use between 9am and 5pm only for €199, which represents a discount of over 50% on its standard room rate.
David Lebee, CEO of Dayuse, saud that the website allow hotels the opportunity to maximise occupancy and to target the vast amount of rooms that remain empty during the daytime.
