Former City West Owner Jim Mansfield Passes Away

Businessman Jim Mansfield has passed away this morning at the age of 75.

Mr Mansfield, best known as the founder of the Citywest Hotel, conference and golf complex had reportedly suffered from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) for some time.

He was once worth an estimated €1.7 billion with assets such as the City West, Weston Aerodrome and Palmerstown House.

Mansfield made his original fortune from machinery and equipment salvaged from the Falklands war, which he auctioned in the US. He then moved into the hospitality and property development businesses.

Mansfield had been subject to court proceeding in recent years after the collapse of his hotel, convention centre and golf course empire left him owing millions. The Citywest complex was placed into receivership in 2010 while the following year, NAMA seized the last of the major assets in Mansfield's property empire.
