Galway Food Festival To Return In March

The latest edition of the Galway Food Festival 2016 will take place this year over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend (24-28 March).

The festival, which organisers say 'celebrates Galway as a good food destination with an emphasis on local, seasonal and artisan produce', will include an extended food village on the banks of the Corrib, restaurant trails, open-air markets, food tours to local artisan producers, cookery demonstrations, tastings, food talks, wine and beer workshops, local produce, a meet the producers forum, kids activities and family fun days.

A new part of the festival will be the exploration of international diversity and the global persona of Galway food. Over 75 restaurants, food outlets and producers are expected to be involved. Most events will be free admission and family-friendly.

The festival also coincides with the commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising. To acknowledge this, the festival will celebrate 100 years of Irish food and will aim to rediscover Ireland's culinary heritage.

Galway's dining scene will host a series of culinary events across the city. These will explore the traditions, products and dishes that have evolved over the last 100 years. A host of Ireland's top chefs and food historians will present a series of events, exploring the history and tapestry of Ireland's food movement.

Last year's Galway Food Festival was attended by more than 70,000 people. Over 100 food outlets and producers from across the city and county took part.
