Government Says PUP Recipients Will Not Be Transitioned To Jobseeker's Payments Before October 22
The government has said that Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) recipients will not be transitioned to jobseeker's payments before October 22.
As reported by rte.ie, the government had previously planned to move PUP recipients whose payment was at or had been reduced to €203 over to jobseeker's payments in September as part of a wind down plan for the scheme.
Department Of Social Protection Statements
The Department of Social Protection reportedly said, "This has now been deferred until after all sectors have started to reopen in line with the roadmap announced on Tuesday 31 August and all affected customers will continue to receive their PUP payment until 26 October when the process of their possible transition to a jobseeker's payment will begin."
The Department of Social Protection reportedly added, "Work on the transition process will commence at the end of September when the department will write to all affected customers to outline the options available to them."
PUP Rate Reductions
PUP rates will reportedly be cut by €50 from today (Wednesday September 8), with the change reportedly being reflected in payments from September 14, as part of the government's wind down of the scheme, and students in full-time education will reportedly receive their final payment this week, as they return to college.
Payments to PUP recipients receiving €250 will reportedly fall to €203, which is the maximum rate for Jobseeker's Benefit and Jobseeker's Allowance, and recipients whose payments fall to €203 will reportedly be gradually moved over to a jobseeker's payments.
Further €50 reductions in PUP rates will reportedly take place on November 16, 2021, and February 8, 2022.
PUP Cost And Number Of Recipients
The total cost of the PUP scheme, which closed to new entrants on July 8, to date has reportedly surpassed €8.6 billion, and approximately 143,000 people were reportedly in receipt of it as of last week.
A little more than 140,000 individuals will reportedly receive PUP payments this week, which reportedly be a fall of 3,468 on last week.
