New Self-Isolation Rules Announced For People Who Travel To Ireland From The UK
The government has announced new self-isolation rules for individuals who travel to Ireland from the UK.
As reported by The Irish Independent, under plans confirmed by the government, fully vaccinated UK residents who travel to Ireland will be required to self-isolate for a minimum of five days following their arrival in the country and unvaccinated UK residents who travel to Ireland will be required to self-isolate for a minimum of 10 days following their arrival in the country.
Details Of The Rules
Fully vaccinated individuals will be permitted to end their self-isolation period after five days if they produce a negative PCR test after five days of self-isolation.
Unvaccinated UK residents who travel to Ireland will be required to produce a negative PCR test on days five and 10 of their self-isolation period before they will be permitted to end their self-isolation.
Individuals who do not avail of PCR tests will be required to self-isolate for 14 days.
The Department of Health has reportedly said that the legal requirement to self-isolate also applies to individuals who arrive in Northern Ireland from the UK and subsequently travel to the Republic.
The new rules have been introduced due to increasing concerns about the Delta variant of COVID-19, and apply from now.
The Irish Independent quotes Taoiseach Micheál Martin as saying, "The broader picture is that the variant has increased in prevalence in the UK.
"I think it makes sense that we continue to monitor this, which we will take public health advice as we move along, but so far the reopening has gone well in Ireland."
The above news follows news from earlier this week that the government was considering a longer quarantine period for unvaccinated individuals who travel to Ireland from the UK to combat the threat posed by the Delta variant of COVID-19.
