Government Announces New Initiative For Food Start-Up Firms

The Irish government has launched a new entrepreneur initiative titled the Food Starter Programme, the purpose of which is to provide new and emerging food businesses with all the information they require during the early stages of production. It is also hoped that the initiative will attract new Irish food start-ups to the industry.

According to The Irish Times, the programme is being presented as an interactive workshop that includes case study reviews of food producers, video stories, the sharing of stories by established producers and break out exercises. Those who complete the programme will have the option of moving on to the Food Academy Programme for the opportunity to put their products on the market.

Taking place over a two day period, the programme will be run by local enterprise offices in conjunction with Bord Bia. Eileen Bentley, senior marketing strategy manager for Bord Bia, commented, "Our aim with the programme is to use our food expertise to develop the capability of participating food entrepreneurs to help ensure their long-term viability."
