Ireland's Ancient East Being Promoted To Spanish Travel Agents

Fáilte Ireland is playing host to nine agents from Spanish travel agency Viajes El Corte Ingles who have come to Ireland to learn more about the country's Ancient East tourist route with a view to selling more packages to the country.

Fáilte Ireland’s Business Development team will be giving the group a presentation during a visit to Powerscourt House and Gardens, after which they will have an opportunity to explore Ireland’s Ancient East for themselves as they embark on exursions to Glendalough, Kilkenny Castle, the Rock of Cashel, and Curraghmore House before heading to Cork to tour the Jameson Distillery, English Market and Kinsale.

Fáilte Ireland head of international publicity Ciara Sugrue stated, "With overseas visitors now looking for authenticity and immersive experiences, Ireland has much to offer. With ever increasing flights and expanding new routes to and from Spain, this market has opened up Ireland as a new destination for inbound tourism and we are determined to benefit from the greater potential.”

2016 saw over 370 thousand Spanish residents travelling to Ireland, which represented an increase of 15% on the previous year and a total spend of €187 million.
