Irish Whiskey Industry Welcomes First New Donegal Distillery In 174 Years

The Irish Whiskey Association has welcomed news that first new distillery in Donegal in 174 years is set to be constructed in Donegal’s Gaeltacht region.

The Sliabh Liag Distillery will be located on the slopes of Donegal’s Sliabh Liag cliffs, and will produce the brand’s ‘The Silkie’ blended whiskey.

Miriam Mooney, Head of the Irish Whiskey Association commented, "The announcement is another sign that the Irish Whiskey industry is moving confidently towards double digit export growth by 2020.

"With the Irish whiskey industry exporting to 77 countries, great Irish brands like this will continue to be experienced through our high quality whiskey products."

Bord Bia recently revealed that the best performing category in terms of export growth, last year was beverages, and according to Mooney, this has been driven by sustained growth in Irish whiskey exports, which recorded growth of 18%.
