Major Players Line Up Opening Bids For €60m Carton House Resort

Opening bids are expected today (12 September) for Nama-backed sale of the four-star Carton House hotel and golf resort in Maynooth, Co. Kildare.

According to The Irish Times, Irish businessman JP McManus, who owns the soon-to-be-reopened five-star Adare Manor in Co. Limerick, could make a bid for the resort, while media and hotel billionaire John Malone and the Guinness heir Edward Iveagh are also said to be weighing up offers for the property, which as a guide price of €60 million.

A number of unnamed international players are also expect to submitted first-round bids for Carton this week.

John Malone's Irish hotel partnership with John Lally’s Lalco includes a hotel portfolio featuring the Westin and Intercontinental in Dublin and Glenlo Abbey in Co Galway, while last autumn three Dublin hotels - the Spencer Hotel in the IFSC, the Beacon Hotel in Sandyford and the Morgan Hotel in Temple Bar - were acquired by the partnership in a multi-million euro deal.

Carton House resort, which includes a 165-bedroom four-star hotel and two championship golf courses, is being sold on behalf of the Mallaghan and Kelly families by CBRE.
