McDonald's Appeals EU Decision To Revoke 'Big Mac' Trademark

McDonald's has appealed the decision by European regulators to revoke its "Big Mac" trademark.

The decision to revoke the trademark came as a result of an EU case in which Supermac's sought its cancellation to help the Irish company to expand into the UK and Europe.

EUIPO

McDonald's has now submitted notice of appeal with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). It is expected that the EUIPO will take a least a year to reach a decision about the appeal.

The EUIPO's decision making process will delay the application by Supermac's to have its own trademark registered across Europe in order to allow the company to expand on the continent.

The Irish Times quotes Supermac's managing director Pat McDonagh as saying, "We are at this for four years so one more year doesn’t bother us. I am very confident that we will get the decision on the Supermac’s trademark."
