New €40m St Stephen's Green Hotel Gets Final Green Light

Despite an objection from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, An Bord Pleanála has granted final approval for the development of a €40 million luxury hotel at 77 Stephen’s Green, in Dublin.

Developer Brown Table Solutions can now press ahead with converting Loreto Hall – a former women’s hostel – into a 87-bedroom hotel, which will include a restaurant and spa-treatment centre on the ground floor, as well as a hotel bar and function room on the first floor, reports the Irish Examiner.

In April, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Office of Public Works and the Irish Georgian Society objected to the proposal, with Dublin City Council claiming to have “serious concerns about the height and scale” of the nine-storey development.

An Bord Pleanála responded to objections by ordering the omission of a planned penthouse-suite level and one floor from the planned hotel, stating that the proposal would not adversely affect the character or architectural significance of the historic buildings on site.

Loreto House hit the market with a guide price of €5.75 million last year, and its conversion is expected to cost an estimated €40 million.
