New Passport Machines Introduced At Dublin Airport

New passport machines began operating at Dublin Airport at 8 am yesterday morning (Thursday November 30).

According to The Irish Independent, the machines have been introduced in the hopes of augmenting security and speeding up passage through the immigration process. They're accessible to all Irish and EU travellers who have e-Passports and are over 18 years of age.

The Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) explained that the gates work "by using advanced facial recognition technology and integration with national and international watch lists."

The first phase of the gates' installation involves the opening of 10 gates each in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. INIS said that more e-Gates could be installed at Dublin Airport as well as at other points of access into the country "should it make operational and financial sense to do so."
