Northern Ireland Showcased To German Journalists

Four German journalists were visiting Northern Ireland last week, investigating what the region has to offer. During their stay, they were  guests of Tourism Ireland, Tourism NI and the German Institute for Tourism and Development (Studienkreis für Tourismus + Entwicklung).

The journalists’ itinerary included a cruise on Upper Lough Erne and a visit to the Marble Arch Caves and Global Geopark. They also spent time in Londonderry, where they engaged in a walking tour of the city’s historic walls, with stops at the Guildhall, the Tower Museum and the Peace Bridge.

Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe, said, “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite these influential journalists to visit Northern Ireland. Their articles and radio programmes will reach more than 21 million people in Germany, helping to raise awareness of the many things to see and do on a holiday in Northern Ireland. Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to promote Northern Ireland, and visits by journalists are a key element of that programme.”

Tourism Ireland launched a new strategy earlier this year, setting out targets which will see German visitor numbers grow by 20% by 2021.
