Porterhouse Co-Founder Oliver Hughes Passes Away

Leading Dublin publican Oliver Hughes, the co-founder of The Porterhouse Group and Lillie's Bordello, has passed away at the age of 57.

After opening the first Porterhouse bar in Bray in 1989 with his cousin Liam LaHart, they opened further Porterhouse bars in Temple Bar in 1996, London's Covent Garden, New York, Glasnevin and on Nassau Street.

Hughes, the former chairman of the Licensed Vintners Association, was one of the first publicans to lead the way for Ireland's craft beer market, exporting Porterhouse beers to the United Kingdom and America.

While more recently, Hughes opened the Dingle Whiskey Distillery, the country's first purpose built distillery for whiskey in Ireland for over 200 years, the Dingle Whiskey Bar on Nassau Street and refurbished Porterhouse Glasnevin as The Whitworth Dining & Bar.
