Portmarnock Resort Set For Major Facelift

The owners of the four-star Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links in Dublin have started work on a multimillion euro refurbishment project.

US real estate investment group Kennedy Wilson, which bought the site out of receivership in mid-2014, has earmarked in the region of €5 million for the upgrade of the hotel, while the firm has already invested an estimated €1 million on the site's championship golf course, according to The Irish Times.

The refurbishment will include work on 90 of its bedrooms, new meeting and conference facilities, an upgrade of the Seaview Lounge, an extension of its main restaurant and a new entrance and car park.

"It will be pretty much a brand new hotel by the time we're finished," said Barry O'Connor, who is overseeing the investment programme.

Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links employs up to 140 staff at peak times of the year and was purchased by Kennedy Wilson for about €27 million in 2014.
