NFRN Criticises Newspread Administration Charge Plans

NFRN Ireland has hit out at proposals by Newspread to introduce an administration charge of €15 for payments by cheque or direct lodgement.

The measures, which come into effect on January 7th, have been brought about, Newspread claim, due to an increase in the “administrative time and costs for process payments by cheque or direct lodgement,” according to Newspread accounts receivable manager Deirdre Houlihan.

Houlihan added: “Newspread has absorbed these costs to date and have tried to minimise the impact on our customers.  Unfortunately it has reached the point whereby we can no longer continue to absorb these costs.”

According to NFRN Ireland President Joe Sweeney, who deemed the proposals an ‘outrage’: “It’s scandalous that we are to be charged for the privilege of paying by cheque.  Newspread claims it costs them money to process cheques but really all it wants to do is get its hands on our money more quickly.”
